Michael Shafar - Well Worth the Chemo

You might know Michael Shafar from his debut special (A)LIVE on Amazon Prime, or you might be one of the 80+ million people who has seen his videos online. He's also been on a bunch of Australian TV and radio programs, but you probably haven't seen those if you live in the UK.

Either way, you'll enjoy his show! This Jewish, testicular cancer survivor, lawyer-turned-comedian is one of the freshest new voices in the Australian comedy scene and has made a name for himself for his scathing social commentary.

Michael receives rave reviews everywhere he performs, but his favourite review came from his oncologist who saw his patient perform and afterwards said: "Great show, Michael. You were well worth the chemo".

Below are some reviews from less significant sources:

'Shafar circumnavigates the line between edgy and offensive with beautiful finesse. ★★★★½' The Age

'A brand of comedian that is getting rarer to come by... if you’re among those who fear comedy has gotten too politically correct, this show will put those fears to rest. ★★★★' Time Out

This year we have two entry methods: Free & Unticketed or Pay What You Can
Free & Unticketed: Entry to a show is first-come, first served at the venue - just turn up and then donate to the show in the collection at the end.
Pay What You Can: For these shows you can book a ticket to guarantee entry and choose your price from the Fringe Box Office, up to 30 mins before a show. After that all remaining space is free at the venue on a first-come, first-served bases. Donations for walk-ins at the end of the show.

News and Reviews for this Show

August 9, 2023    The Edinburgh Reporter

Free-flowing and irreverent, his humour is imbued with a warmth and approachability that makes it relatable to more than just the millennials who made up a goodly proportion of his audience. By the time he ended his set with a self-deprecating itchy-bum joke – another niche area – Shafar had them in the palm of his (hopefully clean) hand. Click Here For Review
